Unique personal archive of five signed items from the collection of Louise Furman, an Air Force nurse who cared for Eisenhower at his winter home in Indian Wells, California, in December of 1968. Archive includes two TLSs, two books, and a signature. First TLS is signed “Dwight D. Eisenhower,” one page, personal letterhead, December 29, 1967, in part: “Your Christmas card was imaginative in design and your letter was heartwarming. I assure you that if I ever find need of nurses again, you would be the one I would truly want to have. I felt it a real privilege to meet and know such an efficient nurse and charming young lady.” Second TLS is signed “D. D. E.,” one page, personal letterhead, May 22, 1968, in part: “I deeply appreciate your thoughtfulness and your concern for my well being and am pleased to report that my doctors are allowing me to be up and around a couple hours each day.” Signed books include a first edition hardcover of At Ease: Stories I Tell My Friends, signed and inscribed in black felt tip on a bookplate affixed to the half-title page; and a softcover Holy Bible, signed on the rear pastedown in blue ballpoint between Furman’s handwritten passages. Also includes an ink signature and inscription by Eisenhower on a white slip laminated to a 16 x 22 newspaper article about Furman’s time caring for him; and includes three photographs and a couple letters from Eisenhower’s aides. In overall very good condition, with letters laminated and heavy wear to the signed Bible. A unique assortment of items representing an interesting personal story. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
