Description

Early Space Program Body Models

Collection of twenty early space program body models of various shapes and sizes, ranging from about 4.5″ in diameter and 2.5″ tall to 3.75″ in diameter and 11″ tall. The two cone-shaped models are made of a lightweight wood, while the others are constructed of a variety of materials, including foam, plastic, wood, and other composites. Of the different styles of models, three resemble the Command Module capsule designs and two resemble lifting body aircraft; most others are somewhat conical. Many appear to have had heat applied to them during tests and experiments. In overall very good to fine condition, with expected wear from use and one wing of a ‘lifting body’ broken off and absent. These were originally acquired from the estate of a Martin Marietta engineer and potentially represent engineering models used in a NASA design contract proposal.
