Lawyer and public official (1796–1875) and signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Autograph endorsement signed “William Menefee,” at the conclusion of a manuscript document, one page both sides, 8 x 12.75, March 30, 1837. At the end of a contract concerning the headright of George Wright, Menefee writes, in part: “Before me William Menefee Chief Justice in and for the County of Colorado the parties whose Names appear to the above contract personally appeared and acknowledged the same.” In very good condition, with repaired separations to folds, a large repaired tear passing through part of Menefee’s signature, heavy overall toning, and a few other chips and tears.
