TLS, one page, 8.25 x 10.75, personal letterhead, April 25, 1917. Letter to esteemed mineralogist Dr. George F. Kunz, in full: “Words fail me in thanking you for your very kind letter. My trusteeship of Cooper Union has always been a great source of satisfaction, and I am gladdened by your sincere appreciation of what that institution is doing. The handsome volume which accompanied your letter will be a constant reminder of the many kind thoughts and deeds for which I am your debtor. Mrs. Carnegie and I have greatly enjoyed looking through it, and it now occupies a prominent place on our library table, where it may be referred to from time to time, and exhibited to appreciative callers.” In very good condition, with tape-repaired tears to intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature), irregular toning to borders, slight creasing, small tears to edges, and tack holes to upper left corner.
