World War II-dated TLS signed “C. W. Nimitz,” one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Pacific Fleet letterhead, April 6, 1943. Letter to Mason A. Bowen, in full: “It is a pleasure to have your letter of April 1, 1943 and to hear that you are still performing useful services along the lines of your special training. It is also a pleasure to hear from old shipmates. The members of your family are apparently in the war effort to the maximum extent possible and you have reason to be proud of their participation in this important work. Mrs. Nimitz, with our twelve year old daughter, Mary, live in Berkeley, California where I know she has plenty of poinsettias to look at and to enjoy. However, it is very nice of you to think of her in this connection. I regret to note that you have been ill and I sincerely hope that you have recovered.” Nimitz has made a single handwritten emendation. Scattered creasing, trivial soiling, and a paperclip impression to top edge, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
