TLS signed “Joe,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, July 11, 1936. Letter to MGM film producer and noted Hollywood ‘fixer’ Edward J. Mannix, in full: “I am enclosing a letter from Mrs. Roosevelt regarding a boy in whom she is very much interested and, as I have concluded my work with Paramount and do not care to take this matter up with them I thought possibly you might be able to help this boy. I have written to Mrs. Roosevelt that I have taken this matter up with you and if there is anything you can do please let me know, or you can get in touch directly with him. I hate like the dickens to ask you to bother about this but coming from Mrs. Roosevelt, I want to give it all the attention I can. Would you be good enough to mail the letter back to me when finished and if there is nothing you can do, I shall surely understand. I am starting my vacation up on the Cape and hope to get my golf game in shape so that I can take you and Ordway on again. By the way that was the pleasantest part of my recent motion picture work.” In fine condition, with staple holes to upper left corner. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
