British banker and politician (1840–1915), the 1st Baron Rothschild, from the international Rothschild financial dynasty. Partly-printed DS in Russian, French, and English, signed “N. M. Rothschild, Contractor,” one page both sides, 9.25 x 14.25, March 1, 1822. Document for a loan at five percent to the Russian government valued at 720 rubles. Signed vertically in the upper right margin by Rothschild as the backer of the loan. Also signed on both sides by several other officials. Crudely repaired separations to intersecting folds (one separation affecting several letters of Rothschild’s signature), heavy wear to edges, and several tears, otherwise very good condition.
