Fantastic Civil War–dated ALS signed “Moses Edwards,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, April 24, 1865. Letter written from St. Charles, Arkansas. In part: “One week ago today the sorrowful news came of the assassination of President Lincoln. I am in hopes that those who has a hand in this fiendish work will get their just dues and in their due time. Who knows but what this act will be a good one, ‘For everything worketh for God,’ and as a common expression with us in the army, I can’t see the rub to it…President Johnson seems to be a man of the right stripe. I think that he will be more severe on the Rebs than even Lincoln has been, I only hope he will. I do not mean the common class but the ringleaders of this rebellions. Those that had the pulling of the robes of this rebellion.” In fine condition, with soiling to the last page.
