Description

Francis D. Millet

American writer, editor, military surgical assistant, and acclaimed artist (born 1848) who was a fatality of the 1912 sinking of the Titanic. He was one of the most famous men to perish in the disaster. ALS signed “F. D. Millet,” four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 7, February 7. Letter to Sanderson, in part: “I have seen a great many good notices of your paintings and am glad to hear that you are doing so well—it gives me a great throb of delight to find you can devote time enough to painting to accomplish such things as I see described. I knew you had taste and inclination and now that you have practice the fact is accomplished. I shake hands and say bravo! Requiescat in pace oh DaVinci! I am coming home (D. V.) in the spring and shall come married. How is that? I intend to marry Miss Merrill on the 11th of next month and there after a couple of months or so in England shall come to America for a season, returning I hope in the early autumn. So we shall meet before long. But I hope and expect one word from you before I return, always to the same address here in Paris for I keep my house on all the time. I am busy painting all the time and have turned out quite a quantity of work good, bad and indifferent mostly the latter.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
