Pierre Monteux

French conductor (1875–1964) who conducted the world premiere of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring in 1913 and went on to direct orchestras around the world. ALS, one page, 5.25 x 3.25, January 19, 1920. In full: “I am sorry to send you that only word without any music, but I am not a composer and I have so many favorite works that I could hardly choose!” In fine condition, with scattered soiling. Accompanied by an unsigned original Shelburne Studios portrait of the Monteux. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
