Uncommon fountain pen signature, “R. L. Stevenson,” on an off-white 1.75 x .75 slip displayed in a 6.75 x 8.5 custom-made mat bearing four affixed Samoan postage stamps, one of which depicts Stevenson. A collector’s note at the bottom reads, in part: “This signature is from a book given by Stevenson to the only photographer in Samoa.” In fine condition, with uniform toning and a pinhole at the top of his second initial. Stevenson lived in Samoa for the last four years of his life, where he was beloved by the local people for his political activism in opposition to colonial rule. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
