Description

Richard Rodgers

ALS signed “Dick,” two pages, lightly-lined, 7.75 x 10.25, October 28, 1964. Letter to American author Edna Ferber, in part: “I’ve just received one of the great compliments of my life; our Portuguese teacher said, ‘You remind me of Edna Ferber’!! Our teacher is 24 years old, speaks nine languages, is studying a tenth—Swedish—is 6 foot 4 inches tall, has gleaming white buck teeth and a tiny, crisp black chin whisker, and he’s as black as his parents were when they came from Africa. (What would Texas say if they knew their Mary had a negro teacher!) But how could I remind him of Edna Ferber? Does he know you? No, but her books, I know. They, like you and this place—there is that vitality here that you feel in her books, and that vision and a rewarding accomplishment. There is energy being poured into this place, the same kind you sense when you read Miss Ferber’s books and I can see the results here just as I read and ‘see’ them when I read her books.” In fine condition, with trivial creasing. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
