TLS as president signed “Wm. H. Taft,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 7 x 8.75, White House letterhead, July 20, 1911. Letter to H. V. Jones, in part: “I have received your letter of July 11th, enclosing a petition signed by American and Chinese citizens of San Francisco. I note that there is criticism of the Immigration Bureau at San Francisco, and I believe we shall get a much more satisfactory administration of the Bureau at that port under the new Commissioner…You say that I have never asked you for an opinion of the situation in the Northwest, and that you presume I am well informed through other sources. I assume that you refer to the attitude of your section of the country with respect to the Administration. I confess that I have not made specific inquiry…I should be very glad of course to have your views whenever you can spare the time to write to me.” Taft adds in his own hand, “I shall value them.” In fine condition, with trivial creasing and foxing, and the expected mailing fold passing through the bottom tips of the signature (irregular ink adhesion to the first letter). Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
