Description

Twice-signed contract for Guthrie’s “Blowin’ Down This Road”

DS signed twice, “Woody Guthrie,” four pages, 8.5 x 11, no date. Agreement between Guthrie and People’s Songs, Inc., in which he transfers the rights to “a certain heretofore unpublished original musical composition…entitled ‘Blowin’ Down This Road.’” In addition to writing the song name on the first page, he writes his name and address on the second, “Woody Guthrie, 3520 Mermaid Ave, Brooklyn, 24, N.Y.” He signs again on the third page to identify himself as the recipient of all royalties, and signs once more at the conclusion of the document on the fourth page. In fine condition, with uniform toning. Guthrie first recorded ‘Blowin’ Down This Road’ for his 1940 Victor Records album Dust Bowl Ballads, his first and most successful commercial recording. A remarkable document relating to one of Guthrie’s iconic works. Pre-certified REAL.
