American journalist (1908–1965) best known for his wartime broadcasts from London and his widely respected CBS television news shows See It Now and Person to Person. Uncommon TLS signed “E. R. Murrow,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, October 6, 1952. Letter to William J. Donovan, in part: “I am indeed flattered to be asked to become a member of the Robert Patterson Memorial Committee and regret that I must decline, I hope you will not consider this as a lack of sympathy or interest in the committee and its aims. The fact of the matter is that my present radio and television broadcasting requires me to work a seven-day week and unfortunately the pressure of this schedule will not permit me to undertake any additional commitments.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds (passing through a single letter of the signature), and staple holes and pencil notations to upper left corner.
