Secretary of the Navy under Lincoln and Johnson (1802–1878). Civil War–dated LS, one page, 7.75 x 9.25, April 22, 1862. Letter to E. L. Norton. In part: “The Secretary of the Treasury has to day passed all the requisitions issued by this Dept. in your favor…and as soon as they can pass the Register and Treasurer, you will receive drafts for the amount.” Moderate overall feathering to ink, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned engraved portrait. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
