Description

Mickey Spillane

Extremely early vintage glossy 9.25 x 7.5 photo of Spillane being presented the cover artwork for the Signet edition of his debut novel, I, the Jury, signed and inscribed in white ink, “Dear Vic—You should have stayed for the brawl that followed! Mickey Spillane.” The first letter of the inscription obscured by the mat, a speck of surface loss to the extreme right edge, and some chipping and dampstaining to mat edges, otherwise fine condition. The Signet paperback of I, the Jury was published in December 1948 to capitalize on the popular hardcover release of 1947. The novel introduced Spillane’s hardboiled detective Mike Hammer, who became his trademark character. An ideal photo from the beginning of Spillane’s prolific career. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
