Personal check, 8.75 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Disney, “Walter E. Disney,” payable to Kalamazoo Inst. Fine Arts–Permanent Col. Fund for $2000, April 9, 1964. Ink notation written in another hand in the memo field confirms the check is the third installment of a five-year pledge made by Disney. In fine condition, with a vertical fold, and expected bank stamps, notations, and cancellation holes (affecting the tips of two letters of the signature). Accompanied by an unsigned glossy photo of Disney. At the behest of his neighbor Donald Gilmore, a Kalamazoo native and one of the original sponsors of Disneyland, Walt Disney made several large pledges to Michigan's Kalamazoo Institute of Arts, a nonprofit organization focused on 'stimulating the appreciation and creation of art.' An excellent connection to one of Walt's early supporters, and the midwestern art scene where he began his animation career. Pre-certified Phil Sears.
