Father (1889–1980) of Jewish World War II diarist Anne Frank, and the only member of his family to survive the concentration camps. TLS, one page, 5.75 x 8.25, February 4, 1963. Letter to Mr. Bartlett, in part: “For the near future we have no plans to come to USA, but it might be that we do so later in connection with the work of the Anne Frank Foundation. At present all our efforts are concentrated on the activities in the house in Amsterdam and to give them a solid financial base. Last summer many conferences, lectures and discussion-evenings have taken place and there were about 40,000 visitors to the house. The student homes adjoining our premises are ready and about 120 are living there. We are preparing a pamphlet giving more details which I shall send to you as soon as it is ready.” A faint diagonal crease passing through two tips of the signature, light creasing, a tear and chip to lower right corner, and adhesive remnants to reverse along upper and lower edge, otherwise fine condition.
