Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais

Watchmaker, inventor, musician, diplomat, fugitive, spy, publisher, arms dealer, and revolutionary (1732–1799) best known for his theatrical works, especially the three Figaro plays. ALS in French, to the Marquis of Argenson, signed “Beaumarchais,” one page, 9.5 x 8.25, no date. Scarce letter, written to a powerful minister of Louis XVI, in which Beaumarchais advises his correspondent he is leaving for Versailles, although "my blood-letting has caused me more harm than good," and asking him for an audience. Intersecting folds and scattered foxing, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
