American naturalist, artist, ornithologist, and educator (1908–1996) whose 1934 book Guide to the Birds is widely considered to be the first modern field guide. TLS signed “Roger T. Peterson,” one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, July 11, 1977. Letter to Reverend and Mrs. Jackson, in full: “Upon my return from three months of field work in Mexico, Texas and the Arctic, I found your note concerning the forthcoming birthday of Reverend M. J. Forwood. That was on June 1st so I am afraid I was unable to comply with your request that I sketch a robin for the birthday book. Actually, I draw robins rather badly. I have never done a decent one, but I do have a print of a robin that I did for Morell and Company some years ago and I am sending this along. It is too late for the birthday book, I know, but you might present it to Reverend Forwood.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature).
