Description

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr

AQS on an off-white 5 x 4 sheet, signed at the conclusion in crisp ink, “Oliver Wendell Holmes, Boston, November 7th 1880.” Holmes pens the last lines of his oft-anthologized poem ‘The Last Leaf.’ In full: “And if I should live to be / The last leaf upon the tree / In the spring, / Let them smile, as I do now, / At the old forsaken bough / Where I cling.” Mounted, cloth-matted, and framed to an overall size of 9 x 8.5. A central horizontal fold passing through one line and two areas of dampstaining to the left side, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
