Uncommon DS in Japanese, signed by Hirohito as emperor of Japan, one page, 23 x 17.75, July 29, 1928. Untranslated document in which the emperor of Japan confers the Order of the Rising Sun with Paulownia Flowers upon Henri Jaspar, the prime minister of Belgium. A French translation is affixed to the reverse. Intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature), scattered creases, and toning, otherwise fine condition. Established in 1888, this was the highest award in the Order of the Rising Sun, and was traditionally bestowed upon prime ministers, diplomats, high-ranking statesmen, senior cabinet ministers, and judges. Jaspar became Belgium’s 27th Prime Minister in 1926, the same year that Hirohito ascended the Japanese throne. An exceedingly desirable, early document from just the second year of the Emperor’s reign. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
