In part: “You’re a ‘living doll’ to send me all those clippings I found at home when I ‘came through’ New York on the way out here to get the Spingarn Medal today. (Nice to have your notes, too, with news of what’s happening to our songs. Sounds good.) From here I’ve got to go to Newport (already late) for the Jazz Festival.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in his own hand. The Spingarn Medal is awarded annually by NAACP for outstanding achievement by an African American, with other recipients including W.E.B.
