Description

Remarkable annotated oxygen supply schematic for the Lunar Module

Extremely detailed oxygen supply suit loop schematic for the Apollo 9 Lunar Module, one page, 37.25 x 10.5, copiously annotated by NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz. The schematic depicts the inner workings of the oxygen systems critical to survival on the moon, with many areas color-coded in green, orange, and blue. Kranz heavily annotated the entire schematic in red ballpoint, including notes concerning “Flow Rate,” “CO2 Cabin Buildup,” “Suit Flow,” “H2O Vapor,” “Hoses,” and “Egress Mode,” and identifying the “ECS Inlet PGA, Outlet from wrist/ankles” and “ECS Outlet PGA, Inlet to Helmet & thru suit.” In fine condition, with tears to binding holes on the left edge. Accompanied by a signed letter of authenticity from Kranz, in part: “The Apollo Environmental Oxygen Supply Loop schematic for the Apollo 9 Lunar Module Spider that accompanies this letter comes from my personal mission files.” This exceptional schematic diagrams one of the four crucial elements of the Environmental Control System (ECS), which created a safe and comfortable gaseous atmosphere for the astronauts, providing fresh oxygen, pressurization, temperature control, water removal, and toxic gas removal. Without these systems, survival on the lunar surface would have been impossible. The Leon Ford Collection. Pre-certified Zarelli Space Authentication.
