Letter to the editors of the Kenyon Review, in full: “I appreciate your invitation to submit a script to you for the first issue of your quarterly. Not to be too formal about the thing, I’m delighted to hear of this new venture. The best of luck to you in it. What I really want to say is that I’m working on an essay treating of the poetry of Federico Garcia Lorca. It’s coming along pretty well and I’m bending every effort toward having it in your hands by November first, the deadline for the first issue. I want to be in that issue. I may be a day or two late, not more. I can’t ask you to wait for me but if you do wait I’ll do my best not to disappoint you. Naturally I’ll get it there before November first if I can.” Williams also pens his address at the conclusion, “9 Ridge Rd, Rutherford, N.J.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds (one vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature) and paperclip marks to the upper left corner. Although it did not make it into the inaugural winter 1939 issue of The Kenyon Review, Williams’s essay, ‘Federico Garcia Lorca,’ was published in the second volume of the now-esteemed journal when it was published in the spring.
