Description

Woodrow Wilson

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 9, State of New Jersey letterhead, January 30, 1913. Letter to L. Irving Reichner, in full: “I want to express to you in writing and more formally than I had the opportunity to do the other day, my warm appreciation of my election as an honorary member of the Society of the Claw. The objects of the Society seem to me admirable. They express in a very appropriate way the spirit of Princeton, and I feel honored by being enrolled among those who have been honored with the distinction of honorary membership.” In fine condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds and some trivial soiling. Founded in late 1912, Princeton’s Society of the Claw was an organization comprised of members who pledged to attend their class reunions for one year, five years, or their lifetimes; Wilson—class of 1879, and president of the university from 1902 to 1910—was one of only a few notable men given an honorary membership. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
