Union general (1831–1888) whose cavalry command blocked Lee’s escape at Appomattox. ALS signed “P. H. Sheridan,” one page both sides, 5.25 x 6.5, Headquarters Army of the United States letterhead, November 24, 1881. Letter to Mr. Nicholson, in part: “In answer to your note of Nov. 4th, I enclose you the remarks made…in Philadelphia.” Sheridan also signs with his initials below a postscript on the reverse, “The delay has been on account of my absence.” Adjoined blank page mostly detached but not detracting from overall presentation. In fine condition, with slight spreading to ink in a few letters (including the first letter of his initials). Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
