Description

The Doors break through on American Bandstand in 1967, as ‘Light My Fire’ tops the charts

DS, signed “J. Morrison,” one page, 7.5 x 9.5, July 12, 1967. Standard AFTRA contract for a single television broadcast between “Jim Morrison of the Doors…and Dick Clark Prod., Inc.,” in which Morrison agrees to “render artistic services in connection with the rehearsal and broadcast of the program…American Bandstand.” Signed at the conclusion in red ballpoint by Morrison and countersigned in blue ballpoint by producer Edward J. Yates. Impressively double-matted and framed with a large image of the Doors to an overall size of 28.5 x 24.5. In fine condition, with signature a few shades light.

The Doors’ appearance on American Bandstand was their national television debut in the United States, and they performed ‘Crystal Ship’ and ‘Light My Fire’ with a brief interview with Dick Clark in between. The performance was lip-synched and recorded at ABC Studios in Hollywood on the date of this document, July 12, 1967, and the segment was broadcast on July 22. In the short on-stage interview, the band mentioned they were working on their second album and Morrison revealed that it would probably be titled Strange Days. Just a week after the show, ‘Light My Fire’ hit number one on the Billboard charts. Oversized. Pre-certified REAL.
