Description

Crick investigates family trees “by studying what is called mitochondrial DNA”

ALS, one page both sides, 6.25 x 8.5, March 6, 2002. Letter to a gentleman interested in tracing ancestry. In part: “Eventually it should be possible to trace many family trees in this sort of way but I suspect it will be some time before it can be done cheaply. Incidentally it can also be done for the person’s female line, going backwards, from mother, to grandmother, to great grandmother…etc, by studying what is called mitochondrial DNA.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Crick’s hand. Handwritten material from Crick is quite scarce and especially desirable when mentioning his most famous contribution to science in the discovery of DNA. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
