German writer notable in the ‘Young Germany’ movement (1811–1878). A 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Gutzkow, lengthily signed and inscribed on the reverse in German in black ink, and dated 1878. In very good condition, with scattered ink marks to the image, surface loss to both sides along one edge of the mount, and two strands of purple ribbon affixed to the reverse. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
