TLS signed “Gerald R. Ford,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, August 10, 1981. Letter to Lee Kramer. In part: “I appreciate your concern over becoming a good citizen and an intelligent voter. Your analysis of political campaigns shows an active and inquiring mind. Never lose that. I would suggest two things you might do in evaluating a candidate. First, try to listen deeply…not just to the fine sounding words they are saying but analytically…are they leading you to assume something they are not actually saying; what purpose is behind their comments; what are they not saying, etc. Think about what they are promising to do if elected. Would it be good for all the people or serve special interest groups? Is it possible to achieve or just a glamorous sounding, something for nothing proposal? Is it economically feasible or would the cost far outweigh the possible good it might do? Second, while a candidates [sic] plans for the future are important, it is also very important for the voter to review the record of past performance. How have they voted on issues before; does it coincide with what they are now promising; have they proven themselves to be an achiever or do they just have their name on the roster of many committees and organizations. However trite the old adage may sound it is, none-the-less, absolutely true…‘Actions speak louder than words.’” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
