Description

Han Suyin

Pen name of Elizabeth Comber (1916–2012) who wrote novels set in Asia and autobiographical memoirs which covered the span of modern China, which gained her a reputation as an ardent and articulate supporter of the Chinese Communist revolution. TLS, one page, 6.25 x 9.5, airmail letterhead, August 1, 1974. In part: “I have at last obtained a translation in Chinese of what purports to be a review of my book…Certainly some people who do not know China will be for Liu Shao-chi. If the Liu Shao-chi policies had been followed, then China today would be a satellite of the USSR; and the USSR would be today in control of Europe, with such a powerful 800 millions behind them…The fact that Liu Shao-chi defected to the Kuomintang to save his life, not once, but three times, is well proven…he always thought of the communist Party as an elitist party above the people.” In fine condition, with intersecting folds. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
