LS as president signed “Benj. Harrison,” one page, lightly-lined, 7.75 x 10.5, Executive Mansion letterhead, March 8, 1892. Letter to J. M. Dashiell. In part: “I am glad to hear from you and glad to know that you retain a friendly recollection of your old colonel. Please accept my thanks…and my most hearty good wishes for yourself and family.” A horizontal mailing fold bisecting the signature and light overall creases and toning, otherwise fine condition. Harrison had served in the Union Army’s 70th Indiana during the Civil War, joining Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign on the front lines in 1864; Dashiell was presumably a war buddy.
