Description

Roy Brown

Canadian aviator and World War I ace (1893–1944) officially credited with bringing down the Red Baron, though later investigations indicated that the kill was most likely made by an Australian anti-aircraft machine gunner. Scarce matte-finish 7 x 9.25 formal portrait of Brown in uniform, affixed to its original 10 x 14 photographer’s mount, signed in fountain pen, “A. Roy Brown.” Housed in its original presentation folder. In very good condition, with blocks of toning and creases to the mount, subtle horizontal marks near the bottom of the image due to ink transfer from a newspaper clipping laid on top, silvering to dark areas of the image, and light contrast to signature against the dark background. Accompanied by two letters of transmittal from his office, dated 1935. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
