Blues and Jazz Musicians Collection of Four Items

Three DSs and an ALS, including: a blank application to register a claim to copyright, signed at the conclusion in blue ballpoint by Lonnie Johnson; a royalty agreement between the Chicago Music Publishing Company and Jesse Crump for a song titled ‘Same Old Blues,’ signed at the conclusion of the second page in fountain pen by Crump and his wife Ida Cox; a royalty agreement between the Chicago Music Publishing Company and Lovie Austin for a song titled ‘Bad Luck Blues,’ signed at the conclusion of the second page in fountain pen by Austin and Jay Mayo Williams; and an ALS signed “MLW,” one page both sides, 5 x 8, October 13, 1965. Letter from Mary Lou Williams to a friend regarding her line of hats, in part, “Have to have glamorous colors & freakish ideas to sell to Harlem. You should see my hats.” In overall fine condition, with a missing corner tip to Austin DS, expected handling wear to royalty agreements, and a small area of toning to Williams letter. Lot is accompanied by the embossed registration certificates from the Copyright Office of the Library of Congress for both royalty agreements, and the original mailing envelope for the Williams letter, addressed in her own hand, and bearing her full signature in the return address area.
