Description

Luigi Palma di Cesnola

Italian-American soldier, diplomat, and archaeologist (1832–1904) who received the Medal of Honor for his service during the Civil War and later became the first director of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. LS signed “L. P. di Cesnola,” one page, 5.75 x 7.5, Metropolitan Museum of Art letterhead, March 22, 1884. In full: “I have the pleasure to inform you that you have been elected an Annual Member of this institution.” Intersecting folds (a horizontal fold passing through the lower portion of the signature), light wrinkling, and toned tape remnants at the bottom, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
