James W. Blake

Lyricist (1862–1935) who wrote the popular song ‘The Sidewalks of New York,’ performed by the likes of Mel Torme, Duke Ellington, Larry Groce, and The Grateful Dead. Souvenir handwritten lyrics, one page, 8.5 x 11, January 25, 1933, signed and inscribed in ink, “To The Red Cornelius Greenway, James W. Blake—Author.” Blake pens the complete lyrics to his famous song, titling it at the top, “On The Sidewalks of New York.” In part: “Eastside—Westside, all around the town / The tots sang Ring-a-Rosie, London Bridge is falling down / Boys and girls together, me and Mamie O'Rourke / Tripped the light fantastic, on the sidewalks of New York.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
