English jurist, judge, and Tory politician (1723–1780) known for writing Commentaries on the Laws of England; he was confirmed as the first Vinerian Professor of English Law in October 1758. Handwritten endorsement, signed “W. Blackstone,” at the conclusion of a pay order written to him by Thomas Randolph, one page, 7 x 5, July 23, 1759. The order, in part: “Pray please to pay to Dr William Blackstone two hundred Pounds, being his yearly salary, as…Vinerian Professor.” Endorsed at the conclusion by Blackstone to confirm receipt: “25 Jul. 1759. Received the Contents.” Intersecting folds and some scattered foxing, otherwise fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
