Description

Edward G. Robinson

TLS, two pages, 5.25 x 7.5, Hotel Pierre, New York letterhead, January 25, 1941. Letter to Elmer Rice at the Playwrights’ Company in New York. In part: “While I am moved by the need for correction of the many abuses of civil liberty cited, I…believe it politic that our approach be brought down to the simplest denominator, one that people may easily understand and sympathetically absorb. Anything that smacks of collateral partisan approach, like defending the Thomas case in Jersey City, is not the best medium to serve our purpose because of its political background and its implications. The Mobile case…sounds like a very human story that we could do on ‘Big Town’—everybody hates the grifters and grafters whose abuses of civil liberties and other rights make a good springboard for attack.” Handsomely double-matted and framed with a portrait of the actor to an overall size of 27 x 16. In fine condition. Oversized. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
