Description

ALS, one page, 4.5 x 7, personal Rock House letterhead, October 24, 1896. Letter to his agent. In full: “Herewith for Pearson & McClure the whole of the end of C. C. [Captains Courageous]. I want the corrected galley proofs carefully read and as soon as may be, a proof of the M. S. portion.” In very good condition, with moderate to heavy overall creases and scattered foxing. Kipling’s novel followed the adventures of a teenager after being saved from drowning by a fishing boat in the north Atlantic, and was first serialized in McClure’s beginning in November 1896 before being published in book form the next year.
