Scarce ALS as first lady, signed “Hillary,” one page, 6.25 x 9.5, White House letterhead, September 24, 1993. Letter to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. In part: “I hope we will have a chance soon to talk about the health care proposal…As you said the other day, we are finally addressing health security, years behind Germany and others. This book is an impressive review of the German system that I thought you might enjoy.” In fine condition, with staple holes to upper left. Accompanied by its original, hand-addressed envelope marked “Personal” and “By the courtesy of Ira Magaziner.” Magaziner was a fellow Rhodes Scholar at Oxford with Bill Clinton and served on the president’s task force on national health care reform. During her time as first lady, the major initiative Hillary Clinton put forth was an effort to develop a comprehensive plan to provide universal health care for all Americans; this officially became known as the Health Security Act, but failed to gain support from Congress. Handwritten letters from Clinton as First Lady are quite rare, especially with such desirable content. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
