Selected to be the two-man crew of Gemini 9, Bassett and Elliot See were killed on February 28, 1966, when their T-38 trainer jet crashed into McDonnell Aircraft Building 101. ALS signed “Charles A. Bassett II, Captain USAF,” one page, 8 x 10.25, January 6, 1964. Letter to an admirer. In full: “I am very pleased to send you my photograph. I hope it will again make your collection complete. I think it is wonderful that you have taken it on yourself to help the space program along. It is people like you that will make it a success.” In fine condition. Accompanied by an unsigned official color 8 x 10 NASA lithograph. Only four months earlier, Bassett had been selected as one of the 14 astronauts in Group 3.
