(Paramount, 1931) Exceedingly rare color 14 x 22 window card for the classic 1931 film Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, directed by Rouben Mamoulian and starring Fredric March. This is perhaps the most appealing poster created for the film, with a vibrantly colored image portraying the menacing duality of the title character. The upper imprint area is filled out in ink with information for the showing, reading: “Campus Theatre / Moran School / Friday, July 15th at 8pm. Prices 10¢ and 20¢ / Saturday, July 16th at 7 and 9 pm—Prices 15¢ and 25¢ / News Reel, Cartoon Comedy, / Rin-Tin-Tin in / ‘The Wolf-Man!’ and [Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde].” The copyright notice in the lower border reads: “‘Country of Origin U.S.A.’ Copyrighted 1931—Paramount Publix Corp. This poster leased from Paramount Publix Corp.” In very fine condition. This film is still considered one of the best versions of the oft-adapted Robert Louis Stevenson tale of the man whose potion turns him from a mild-mannered man of science into a homicidal maniac. Frederic March’s terrific performance garnered immense critical acclaim, and for this role he earned his first Academy Award. A paramount piece from the horror genre.
