Description

Dee Dee’s stage-used bass verified by the Ramones guitar tech

Dee Dee Ramone’s personally-owned and stage-used bass guitar. Fender Precision bass, #S917607, made in the mid-1980s, and purchased by Dee Dee after the theft of the band’s equipment, the guitar shows silicone remnants around the pick-ups, applied by Dee Dee himself, to prevent himself getting shocked due to his heavy perspiration. Signed on the white pickguard in black felt tip by Ramone. Dee Dee can be seen playing this very guitar on the Ramones ‘It’s Alive 1974–1976’ DVD during a performance at the Old Grey Whistle Test in London on February 26, 1985, a copy of which accompanies the guitar. In very good condition, with rusted pickguard screws, some rusting to the bridge saddles and polepieces, both knobs detached (one of which is included), expected wear to neck and body, and aforementioned residue around pickups.

Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from longtime Ramones employee Jeff ‘Truckie’ Golden, which states, “My name is credited on several Ramones albums…I was given the…Dee Dee Ramone personally owned and stage-used Fender Precision bass guitar…in lieu of one weeks pay by Ramones manager Monte Melnick. The guitar was left behind in an equipment locker at S. I. R. in NYC after Dee Dee Ramone quit the band.” Also included is a letter of authenticity from Ramones roadie Matthew Lolya, which states, in part: “I was a roadie for the Ramones from 1976–1989. I was a guitar tech and I personally worked with Johnny and Dee Dee’s guitars during the time I was employed by the band. The guitar…was owned and played by Dee Dee Ramone during the mid to late 80s…The guitar was signed by Dee Dee, in my presence, at my 7th St. apartment.” Finally, the guitar comes with a letter from the current owner who states he bought the guitar directly from Golden. Any stage-used instrument from the iconic punk rock band is extremely scarce, even more so with such fantastic, iron-clad provenance. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RR Auction COA.
