David D. Porter

Admiral (1813–1891) who helped improve the Navy as the superintendent of the US Naval Academy after significant service in the American Civil War. War-dated LS, one page, 7.5 x 10, U. S. Mississippi Squadron letterhead, November 13, 1862. Letter to Captain H. Walker. In full: “I send down five stoves by the Steamer ‘B’ for the following named vessels—besides your own—‘Benton,’ ‘Pittsburgh,’ ‘Cairo,’ ‘Mound City,’ ‘Louisville.’ Will you please see that they are distributed and put up on the berth decks of the vessels names.” Framed to an overall size of 8.5 x 11, which is in turn framed with a portrait of Porter and a small plaque to an overall size of 22.25 x 17.5. In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA.
