American artist (1901–1973) best known for his paintings, etchings, and lithographs. Three items: two ALSs, one signed “Philip Evergood” and one signed “Philip E.,” each one page, 8.5 x 11, personal letterhead, dated 1965. The first letter, in part: “At the moment I am obliged to work very hard. (I have certain deadlines to meet on one or two small projects).” The second, in part: “have been battling to complete some work that I had contracted to do—a colored lithograph (for Vincent Price collection) for the last few weeks.” Third is an AQS from a poem by Robert Herrick written out by Evergood, in full: “A careless shoestring in whose tye / I see a wild civility: Do more bewitch me than when Art / Is too precise in every part,” signing at the conclusion, “This pertains to my credo, Philip Evergood.” In overall fine condition, with a trimmed edge to one letter.
