Titled "A Mirror for the Intemperate," printed in five columns with five vignettes illustrating the hazards of drinking accompanied by verse (’Ode to Rum’ and ‘Father and Son’), essays by Prof. Edward Hitchcock and Salmon Bronson, and speeches by J. Kittredge, a condemned murderer, as well as an Indian Chief. There are also news reports (Peru has passed a law prohibiting the importation of liquor), and facts (number of temperance societies in New England by state). Imprinted at the lower edge, just with the scrolling floral and leaf border: "Henry Bowen's Chemical Print....For N. Boynton, Mechanic-Place, Boston."
