Description

Rare Jackie Kennedy free frank

Hand-addressed envelope, 5.25 x 3.75, addressed by Kennedy to “Mrs. Robert S. McNamara, 2412 Tracy Place N. W., Washington, D. C.,” and franked along the top edge, “Jacqueline Kennedy,” and bearing a July 25, 1964, Hyannisport, Massachusetts postmark. Also included is a one-page private typed memo, signed in type by McNamara, 8 x 10.5, dated August 3, 1964. Memo provides an interesting glimpse into the inner workings of the Kennedy family and reads, in part: “On Friday the President stated he believed that Jackie had been pressuring Bobby to run for the Vice Presidency. The President had been told by one or more individuals that Jackie had repeatedly stated to Bobby he must run for the Vice Presidency and that it was at her insistence, rather than any desire of his own…I replied that I was certain he was wrong on both counts.” In fine condition. Envelope and memo originate from the Estate of Robert McNamara. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RR Auction COA.
