Description

Daphne Du Maurier

English author and playwright (1907–1989). Among the best-known film adaptations of her works were Rebecca and The Birds, both directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Two items: a satin-finish 5 x 5 photo of du Maurier seated outdoors, signed in blue ballpoint on the front, “With best wishes, Daphne du Maurier,” and signed again on the reverse, “Many thanks for your letter. Forgive rush. Overwhelmed by Christmas mail! Daphne”; and a TLS, one page, 5.5 x 7, personal letterhead, February 1, 1950. In part: “I am afraid I have no spare copies of my new novel The Parasites to hand. As you may know, the publishers present the author with six copies on publication, and these of course go to my friends and family.” In overall fine condition. RR Auction COA.
